18 miles and a belated birthday dinner

This past Saturday I ran my farthest distance- 18 miles! After my 7:30-9:30 class ended (The Principles and Practices of Epidemiology), I met up with Michelle to run!

I’ve said this before, but she’s an amazing runner AND an amazing running partner. She knew just what to say to keep me going through those 18 miles. She even made me do 1/4 mile pick-ups at the end of our run…

I was probably swearing in my head during this photo, but man am I glad she made me do that! If our schedules align, we will be doing a 20 miler coming up! And before you know it, it’s time for me to taper!

After my run, a shower, and a quick nap, it was time to get ready for Kyle’s (belated) 25th birthday celebration with his parents!

We went to Forbes Mill Steakhouse (highly recommended if you live in the Bay Area). The restaurant even printed a special message on the menus at our table! How cute is that?

We all LOVED our meals (I had the most amazing salmon!) and were ready to unbutton our pants by the end of dinner. Luckily I remembered that my mom told me this was frowned upon at fancy establishments so we refrained.

Sunday I woke up feeling sick. Womp womp. And the first thing I said to myself when I woke up (other than, “man I have to pee”) was, “Damn I’m glad I got that 18-miler done yesterday!” No way I could have completed 18 miles feeling the way I did on Sunday (and today).

One thing that cheered me up was my baby Sienna coming to visit me.

She’s staying for a few sleepovers this week! I was a little worried that she might be nervous in a different home, but she seemed to settle in nicely

How was your weekend?

  1. Awesome job on your 18 miler!! Looks like you had a fun weekend! I’ll rearrange and get my long run in early if I have something planned over the weekend that involves eating my not normal food or indulging I’m wine…good call! I got in a 10 mile run and color run 5k over the weekend.

  2. Wow, what beautiful pictures!! Michelle is such an amazing person and blogger!! What a fab running duo!! Happy you guys have each other- what great motivation!! That’s fabulous!! Way to go!! Seriously, you’re gorgeous!! Hehe, such cute dog pictures!! Way to run!! Woohoo!! XOXO!!

  3. Such a fun (YUMMY) dinner! I ate our leftovers on Sunday after a 3 mile swim- may not have been my smartest move, but DANG that was good! 🙂 I’m SO PROUD of how far you have come with your running! Right now I’m bowing to you (you just cant see) well done!

  4. I’m looking forward to the time when I can say that I went out and ran 20 miles. Until then I’ll smile when I tell people I got up and ran 5 miles already before you even had a cup of coffee.

  5. I can’t believe it’s almost taper time for you! It feels like you just started training! You are a machine! Since my half I haven’t run at all. I was so burned out that I am loving the time off and have been working my butt off in the gym. Lots of strength training! I can’t wait to hear how the rest of your training goes and have fun puppy sitting!

  6. Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, congratulations lady!!! Never ever ever have I run that far, that is incredible! Any running partner who can convince someone to do pickups after 18 miles MUST be a good running partner haha

I hope you are feeling better, I am sure it help to have your pup around 🙂

  7. That’s AWESOME about 18 miles! 20 is only two more! So exciting 😀
haha and your first thought on sunday morning was about the long run…marathon training seriously starts to take over your life as the race approaches, doesn’t it?

  8. Nice job on 18 miler! You are lucky to have such an awesome running partner – I’m very jealous. Marathon training is full of surprises – you definitely push yourself through things that didn’t seem possible before.

  9. Great job on your 18 miler! I ran 18k last weekend and have my last long run this weekend (19k) before my half! We’ve never puppy-sat before but our dog has been away with my parents this past year so I’m excited for her to come home in a few weeks 🙂

  10. Woot woot! Way to crush it! And I’m even more impressed that you had enough energy to go out on the town afterwards. I usually have barely enough energy to get off the couch after those distances. Hope you get to feelin better!

  11. Honestly, you are stronger than you know. I wouldn’t have been able to those quarter mile pickups at the end of my first 18-miler. I am insanely proud of you!
I also can’t believe how incredibly cute you look right after a long run :D. This marathon training thing seems to suit you well!
