My next race!

Before I talk about the title of my post (!) I’ll give you a brief weekend update!

Thursday (I know, not the weekend.) was my baby cousin’s graduation! This fall she’ll be off to college to get all smart n’ stuff.

sydnie graduation family cousins
From L to R: Cousins Matt & Syd, me. Apparently I have no eyebrows.

After her graduation and dinner, I helped my aunt with grad night decorating (she was on the grad night team). Didn’t get home until well after midnight so Friday was fun…

Friday I saw some open houses but didn’t see any “winners.” And then Kyle was super sweet and cooked us fajitas for dinner! Our evening concluded with a couple episodes of Homeland. Love those quiet evenings in!

No real running for the weekend because my knee hurt a smidge on Friday. On Saturday I walked on the treadmill at an incline for ~50 min. and then jogged for 1 mile just to see how she was doin’. No pain (knock on wood)!

Now on to my next race!!

Last night I signed up for a local 10K race, Run San Ramon.

Since myΒ Santa Cruz Half, I haven’t been superΒ motivated to run hard. Plus with my battle to find running shoes and then subsequent knee pain, everything sort of got put on hold. I knew I needed to sign up for a race to get my butt back into shape!

My aunt told me about the Run San Ramon event, and I thought it was just what I needed! The race is on the 4th of July and I’m excited for a few reasons:

  1. 4th of July race = I get to dress patriotic and run with other strangers who want to show their patriotism too
  2. I’ve never done a race on a holiday
  3. It’s local (~15 min away) so I don’t need to get up super early
  4. I’ve never done a 10K race

Now I know I’m out of shape so I shouldn’t have any time goals. But lesbihonest

Anyone else think about this quote anytime you/others say, “Let’s be honest?” No? Just me?

I have a goal. My A goal is 55 min flat (I know, slow for most of you speedsters) which is roughly an 8:51 pace. I haven’t thought about my B and C goals yet. I’ve already created a running plan and I’m excited to start training!

Ever done a 4th of July race?

Have you done a 10K race? Have any tips for this newb? (I’ve only done 5K’s and Half Marathons)

How was your weekend?

  1. Let me begin by saying that is how I say “let’s be honest” now… I can’t help it… it just happens that way

I’ve never done a 4th of July race however this year I’m considering doing the Firecracker 4..It’s a lot earlier than it has been in the past and I’m thinking… why not?

I have done one legit 10k.. I was in vegas… it was hot…lol… what was I thinking… at the time I was not a seasoned runner so I just thought… run for 3.1 and hold on for 3.1 lol. Good luck!

  2. Just did my first 10k this weekend! I probably shouldn’t be handing out any advice though since I didn’t really train for it…. Good luck on your goal!!! I’m excited for you πŸ™‚

  3. a patriotic race sounds like a blast. the only holiday races i’ve done are Turkey Trots, which have been 10Ks, actually. i don’t mind that distance, but i prefer a half i think. have fun!

  4. Yes I do and I LOVE that movie!
I’ve done a turkey trot and a resolution run and I would LOVE to do a 4th of july race! (Maybe I should find one!) I think you’re really going to like the 10K distance. It’s one of my favorites. You have enough time to get warmed up, but then you still get to work on your speed without burning yourself out too badly. I’m so excited for you!!! And that’s a lovely picture up there. You totally have eyebrows. πŸ™‚

  5. Awesome! It’s great to sign up for a race to get you motivated again. Glad your knee is not too upset right now.
I am super duper bad at running 5K’s and 10K’s… it’s weird because the 5K and 10K splits in my PR half marathon were faster than actual 5K and 10K races! So I think there’s is some kind of important warm-up component that I am not doing before those shorter races.

  6. Oh girl, you’ve SO got that 55:00 in the bag!

I randomly raced a 10k this weekend and it was a blast! Long enough that you don’t have to be in 5k omg I’m going to drop dead pain, but short enough that it’s plain ole fun!

I would loveeeee to do a 4th race! I best races on Americas birthday are awesome!

  7. Wooo!!! I love 10k races because they’re relatively quick, but you still have enough time to actually get into the race (I hate 5ks). my 10k pace and half marathon pace are always the same though…so maybe I like 10ks because I don’t push myself as hard, ha

I do a 10k every year on the 4th of July–running on holidays is fun because it starts the day out festively!

  8. Regarding the picture: your eyebrows are just camera shy. πŸ˜‰
I signed up for a 4th of July race too! My husband Cody and I are gonna run it together, and we are so excited. It is a 5k around a beautiful lake.
Good luck prepping for your 10k. Lesbi-honest, anything under 9 minutes a mile is a solid pace.

  9. I am running a 4th of July race this year, too! It will be my first one. It is a one mile race. I have never done one of those and can’t wait to see what that is like. I am guessing there will be some serious speedsters!!!

  10. 10k is neck in neck with the half marathon for my favorite distance. I am running one this weekend! Your 55 minute goal sounds fast to me… I struggle to complete one under an hour!

  11. I really like 10ks, they’re longer than 5ks so I feel like I can get into my groove more easily but not as intense as a half. The only holiday race I’ve done is on Thanksgiving bug was super fun. A 4th rave sounds fun- I’ve been debating on registering for one!

  12. I’ve never done a 4th of July race but have done a few July 1st (Canada Day) races πŸ™‚ I LOVE 10k races – I think they are my favourite distance to run. Just a little more than 5k but enough to challenge yourself. Don’t start out to fast (as in any race) but more importantly have fun! I usually push it a little more between 8-10k if I have any juice left in me πŸ™‚

  13. Your upcoming race sounds like so much fun, I wonder if they have something similar here in Canada. I’m super duper curious to see your outfit πŸ˜€ Yay! Glad to hear that your knee finally seems to get better *knock on wood!* ❀ xoxo
