Screw the healthy crap. Gimme the comfort food.

Woke up on Monday feeling the same way as I did on Sunday (bad sinus issues including but not limited to dizziness, nausea, headaches). But I still went to work cause I’m stubborn like that. My boss told me to go home at lunch haha.

Luckily Monday was my rest day. I like how I can be in a ton of pain, but all I’m thinking about is if I need to rearrange my running/workout schedule.

I ended up feeling better around dinner time so I cooked brinner (breakfast for dinner) for/with Kyle.Β I was in a grumpy mood when Kyle came home. He got me out of it, but here was my “I’m pretending I’m still grumpy but I’m not really grumpy face.” Who wants to play poker with me?

I mean, you can’t really be grumpy when

a) you’re surrounded by dogs who shower you with affection
b) when your boyfriend laughs and makes you go and change into one of his shirts because you spilled egg all over yours and decided the best way to fix that situation was to run the entire front of your shirt under water (grumpy Amy’s decision, not mine).

Gluten-free quiche (using shredded potatoes as the crust), popovers, and asparagus.

Sometimes you just need to say screw the healthy crap and gimme theΒ comfort food.

As of last night, I was still battling sinus issues. Had to move Tuesday’s run to Wednesday because of dizziness. Wednesday’s cross training will be moved to Friday (my rest day).

Would it be unreasonable to ask my doctor to put me in a coma until allergy season is over?

When do you need comfort food?

What is your comfort food?

  1. Oh my gosh all of that looks delicious. My comfort food is this beef stew that my husband makes. I don’t usually eat red meat at all, but for some reason that beef stew is just the best thing ever.
I hope you’re feeling better today. I am exactly the same way. I could be half passed out with a fever and I would still be like “but…my workout…”

  2. Ultimate comfort food — with a side of healthy added in there. That’s the way to do it πŸ™‚ And PS: you look ADORABLE in Kyle’s shirt with the puppies. That is relaxed happy right there. Now if your sinus would just cooperate!

  3. what are those delicious-looking things in the muffin pans?? I need comfort food when I’m stressed or sad. go-to’s include Nutella sandwiches, Nutella on pretzels, Nutella on spoon, Nutella on finger, etc.

  4. Girl I feel your pain on the sinuses. Luckily I haven’t dealt with them lately, but earlier this year I felt absolutely miserable thanks to sinuses. I hope you feel better! That dinner looks amazingggg.

  5. haha My husband did that yesterday. I was super angry/grumpy so he turns and puts his face really close to mine, looks me right in the eyes, and smiles. It was really hard for me to stubbornly maintain my angry face. And he cooked comfort food yesterday – Mixed spicy chili with lots of sharp cheddar cheese, jalapenos and other spices over rice. It hit the spot.

Sorry you’re not feeling too great. Does this always happen to you during allergy season and how long does it usually last? Hope this goes away soon!

    1. LOL you got a good one there! It takes a brave man to approach a grumpy woman that closely πŸ˜‰ Ooooo chili is def a brilliant comfort food!

Aww thank you! This is pretty much a year-round thing for me lol. I have chronic sinusitis (aka I’m prone to getting sinus infections) so basically any time there’s a lot of pollen, dust, or nature πŸ˜‰ I have issues. I can normally avoid serious problems like I’m having right now with regular allergy medication and nasal rinsing…

  6. Aw boo boo!! Sorry you feel like shit. You know it’s bad when you get sent home from work. That really sucks 😦 Kyle did good with his boyfriendly duties pulling you out of your grump funk. You don’t look very grumpy though. You’re too cute to pull that off… even in a boys T-shirt. Keep up with the comfort food and puppy kisses. Best RX ever! Hope you feel better soon!! Otherwise, I approve of the medically induced coma πŸ™‚ xoxo

    1. Thanks love. Lol yeah, it was awkward when my supervisor and boss were like, “What are you still doing here?!” Haha yes, Kyle does a good job of de-grumpifying me. Glad you’re my (only) supporter of the coma idea. No one else gets me.

  7. ahhh hope you feel better soon, girlfriend. this winter has seriously been the WORST — i’ve had the sick something-or-other for over a month now and it’s just lingering like whoa. xo

  8. I love that meal you made, the popovers in particular look beautiful! I’ve definitely been in the “not grumpy anymore but I have to pretend to still be grumpy because it’s kind of awkward” mood before.

    1. Thank you! Oh it’s sooo easy (way easier than making a crust too). You just mix shredded potatoes that have been dried really well with some sort of oil (like coconut or butter). Then you bake it until it starts to get golden, and then you can add your filling!

  9. That looks so good! I just ate lunch and could now go for some comfort food πŸ™‚ Glad grumpy Amy got the boot

  10. That food looks so good! I hope you get to feel better soon. Being sick sucks!

My comfort food is mashed potatoes. I can’t get enough of that stuff. It’s a bit of a cliche (Irish girl loves potatoes) but I don’t care.

  11. Will you send me the quiche recipe?
Comfort food. Hmm. My mom always made a thing when we were sick that was basically a sort of chicken soup with egg noodles poured over mashed potatoes. It is starchy heaven!

  12. Aw so sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well! I understand wanting comfort food! Since we moved, I have been eating wayyyyy too much comfort food. I am an emotional eater (bad habit) and tend to want food that remind me of family. I love eating ice cream and chicken fingers… now I’m drooling and going to go eat an apple! πŸ™‚
