Now what do I do?

I was chatting with my girl/twin Ashley (Chocolate Covered Race Medals) about which races we’re going to do in 2014, and I actually do NOT know!!!

WHAT?

Huh?

Since starting half marathon training in the spring, that’s all I’ve done. Picked a race. Train. Repeat.

Now what do I do? I don’t have a scheduled race…

Easy fix: I started looking into the races that I want to do at the start of 2014. I don’t think that I want to race in January because I have a feeling I will miss some workouts due to the holidays. But here’s my list so far:

-Tinker Bell Half Marathon– It’s been sold out for a while now. I WILL do this race at some point in my life. I LOVE Disney, so I need to do one of their races. NEED to.

Hellyer Half Marathon, San Jose, CA. 3/1/14

The course seems really scenic...plus it's close to my aunt and uncle's house. *cough cough can i stay on your couch?

Go Green St. Patrick’s Day Half Marathon, Los Gatos, CA. 3/16/14

I would love to run in a race and dress up for St. Patrick’s Day! This one is relatively small, but what I think is really cool is that they try to be a “greener” race. Plus, it’s a benefit for theΒ Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

If you haven’t already entered, this Thursday (12/12) is the last day to enter my Road ID giveaway!

Any Northern California race suggestions for me?

What races do you have lined up for 2014?

Have you run in any of these?

  1. What you need to do in between your half’s is do a 5K with your little cousins…find one that’s local and that they can get to easily – none of this waking up at 5:00 a.m. cuz that’s not gonna work for me…But I’m sure they would love to do one with you and we should check first to make sure that Kids Country won’t be doing that one first…Austin was pretty excited to see that he had a pretty good time but he thinks he could do better.

  2. I am in the same predicament picking races for next year. I was supposed to run the Healdsburg Half in October before I got hurt. Check that one out. It’s through wine country and supposed to be beautiful. You’re lucky to be close to a lot of races. No doubt you’ll have a full calendar in no time. I haven’t run Tink but I’ve done Disney twice. It’s expensive but it’s worth doing once. Disney puts on a great race. And it goes fast when you have so many costumes to check out!

    1. Oh wow, wine country! That sounds amazing! AHHH so jealous that you’ve done the Disney! The cost is why I didn’t sign up earlier this year. I had just started training for my first half and didn’t think it was a good idea to commit that much money haha. Do you have any races in 2014?

      1. I haven’t signed up for any races yet. I had to back out of a race in October and probably will for another one at the end of this month. I didn’t want to waste anymore $$ on race fee’s til my back was 100%. I’m eyeballing something in February, but we’ll see. Disney Half registration opens up at the end of January ::cough cough hint hint:: πŸ™‚

          1. It’s always over Labor Day weekend in September. Registration opens sometime late January and last year all out in 12 HOURS!!! If you decide to do it, you’ve gotta be on it. Even at $180 a pop their races sell out in the blink of an eye.

  3. I heart you twin!! And look at you, getting STRAIGHT back into it! I am definitely waiting until June-ish for my next half or full…gotta enjoy ski season! πŸ™‚ But like we chatted about, there are definitely long distance races in my 2014 future!

  4. Diva 1/2 Marathon June 1st. I figure if I start in January, I’ll be good to go. Kaiser has a 1/2 in February- I’ll be walking that one with providers from my Fremont Clinic. You can ride over with me, just have to wait at the finish. πŸ™‚

  5. I could give you a few great East Coast Canada races but sadly not Northern Cali.

I’m starting to think more and more about the races I want to do this year and planning for another 1/2…it’s been 7 years since I did my first one so time to get on it πŸ™‚

  6. I’ve only signed up for the OKC Memorial Marathon in April 2014 but I have challenged myself to run a race every month until then. I think I am joining a trilogy of half-marathons (you get a jacket after you complete the last one) and one is in February, another in May and the final one is the Cranberry one I did in October but will have to repeat for 2014. So at least I have thought about other races now I just need to sign up for the rest of them!

  7. No Northern California races, but I’m looking at some in Charlotte, NC. There’s a half in town April that’s the same weekend as Rock n Roll Raleigh but RnR is already $95 for entry and the Charlotte race is only $50- sold. I’m excited to add more though!

  8. I have actually never trained for a race before! My favorite thing in the whole wide world is to be able to jump into a race at the last minute. That is what I love about running!

That being said, I AM going to be running (not necessarily racing) my dream race in Moab, Utah this Spring!

    Good luck picking your race!

  9. I volunteered this year for Hellyer, and I ran the St. Pat’s one twice (but unfortunately, the course markings and course marshals/guides were way off for both times, and most people ended up running a short course). I’ll have to keep an eye out for which one you end up running πŸ˜€
