The magical powers of my Lulu shirt…or my training is paying off?

Saturday WORKOUT:

Easy 3.23 mile run, supposed to be at an easy pace (where I could hold a conversation). I didn’t pay much attention to my watch, so I was surprised when my easy pace was 9:17.

AND that was my pace with a blister a-brewing. I wore my temporary inserts given to me by the foot surgeon and that was a mistake. The arch is a hard plastic piece that ended up pinching my foot. I will wait for the real things.


Sunday I woke up feeling sick. I had a bad headache and felt dizzy. I just wanted to stay in bed all day. I had an 8 mile run scheduled and there was no way I could do it…or so I thought.

I did what any smart girlfriend does and called Kyle to whine and get him to tell me that I didn’t need to run. Well we talked and he made a good point- if I’m dizzy I should NOT be running. He made me drink some coconut water and regular water because he had a feeling that I didn’t drink enough yesterday (he was right).

And then, Kyle made some more good points (what I actually wanted to hear from him)

  • Kyle: If you’re really dizzy, you should not be running.
  • Amy: *whiney* Yeah.
  • Kyle: However, if you start to feel better, don’t forget what you’re training for. Your half is in a month and you want to do it in under 2 hours. You don’t want to look back and regret not training your hardest.
  • Amy: Whined something about how he was right but I didn’t want to run. Blah. Blah. Blah.

After eating breakfast and drinking water like it was my job, I started to feel better about an hour later. What really got my motivated however, was reading all of your blogs. Seriously. After catching up on blogging, I realized that I was feeling better, I did want to run, and that I needed to suck it up. Plus I heard Kyle’s voice of reason.

Well, I have to thank all of you and Kyle for getting my butt moving. My run was awesome.

I decided to run 7 miles at a 9:09 pace (or faster). I ran at an 8:56 pace. Either my new Lululemon shirt has magical powers, or my training is paying off.

You have no idea how happy I was once I saw this. Almost 2 minutes faster (total) than last weekend.

After I got back from my run though, I had no time to celebrate. I hopped into the shower and rinsed off. Kyle was meeting me so we could go see Rush.

I was not expecting to like the movie, but I really did. I don’t particularly like race car driving. Although I get why people are drawn to it, I think it is too dangerous. The movie was about

the 1976 Formula One season and the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Again, I was shocked that I liked it.

These past few weekends have been some of my favorite. Kyle and I have been basically spending all of Saturday together and we do something on Sunday. I don’t need to necessarily do something exciting. But you have no idea how happy I am when we spend the day together. I can look back and feel like I had a great weekend.

Have you ever had one of those days where you don’t want to run and want your significant other to tell you that you don’t have to…but then you talk yourself into it anyways.

Who is your favorite person to spend the weekend with?

  1. Twin you are a speedy freaking beast yourself 🙂 While I do think that lululemon has some kind of magical power, I am convinced that this is all you and your training my dear. You’ve got this half, no doubt about it. Way to pull through, AND do it smart!

  2. Get it girl!!!! That’s so exciting!!!
    I make excuses almost every morning when I roll out of bed as to why I don’t need to run. Somehow I usually get over it, and of course it is always, always, always worth it.

    That is so sweet that your weekends have been so lovely lately, it sounds like you’ve got yourself a keeper 🙂
