Weekend Update

I get seasick…by watching OTHER people at sea

So Friday night, Kyle and I ate dinner at his parents’ house. They made a delicious meal (as per usual)!

seared ahi, rice, spinach
Seared ahi, black rice with almonds and carrots, and spinach

After dinner, Kyle and I wanted to go to a movie: Captain Phillips

It got really good reviews, and let’s be honest- it’s pretty hard to go wrong with a Tom Hanks movie.

Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates.

We drove to the theatre and got settled in. I brought movie candy from home (shhhhh) because I refuse to spend $5+ on a half a box of candy. you know how inside the box has candy in a plastic wrapper that only fills the box half way??? who does that?? dentists, that’s who.

We got about 15 minutes in to the film and I started to feel nauseous. I couldn’t tell if it was food related or what, but I decided to tough it out and maybe it would go away. <–cause that happens all the time…

About 30 minutes in to the movie, I must have looked like I wasn’t feeling so hot because Kyle asked if I was okay. I said I felt nauseous but I was fine. Kyle whispered “Let’s go” and I said “No, I’m fine.” He ignored me and got up to leave, so we left. Thank goodness we were sitting in the aisle seats.

It helps to have a boyfriend who is as stubborn as you, but looks out for you.

We got out of the theatre and I had to sit down cause I thought I was going to blow chunks. After resting for a few minutes, we went to customer service and got our movie vouchers (to come back at a later time).

Kyle took care of me when we got to my house and I felt better by the time I was going to go to bed.

Moral of the story: I get seasick when watching other people at sea.

I knew that I have bad motion sickness, but I didn’t think I was that much of a pansy. I guess we need to sit further back next time…or take Dramamine.

Oh and one last random fact: My arms are so sore from Saturday’s workout that it hurts to put on deodorant. don’t worry, i did.

Have any embarrassing movie stories?

  1. I’ve acted in a few low budget independent horror movies that are pretty embarrassing. They are also available on-line and in video stores across the country…so I occasionally come across embarrassing reviews. Haha!

  2. Good boy Kyle — way to take care of twinnie :).
I’ve never heard of getting seasick by a movie set on water, but I have gotten sick in IMAX theaters. Something about how it is wrapped all around me, I don’t do too hot on. I have definitely had days ruined in school because I was sick after our science center trips. Bummer.

PS: ^^^^^^ We have famous bloggy friends. Mr. Bob!

    1. Haha I know, it’s pretty bad…I can feel sick in IMAX as well. Kyle and I saw Avatar in 3D in IMAX and we had to leave…can’t take me anywhere!!

Haha I know, how cool is that?!! I think that automatically makes us cooler by association?

  3. Oh wow! I hope you felt better the next day, that is so bizarre!

I am not a big movie watcher, but I adore Tom Hanks so you’ll have to review it when you redeem your vouchers!

  4. Glad you had a loving boyfriend looking out for you. I have issues with movies because I feel like I always have to pee in the middle of the movie. I would rather watch at home. Not to mention the price of my food at home is way cheaper than the theater. But when I do go we pack a lot of food and drinks. No way I would pay that much for so little candy! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hahaha I always go pee 10 minutes before it starts- enough time to go to the restroom without feeling rushed, but close enough to the start that I (hopefully) won’t have to go again. But I agree, it’s so nice watching movies at home- the price, privacy, and you don’t have to worry about rude audience members!

  5. What an amazing meal, James’ mum is a good cook but that looks restaurant quality! I always brings treats from home to the cinema, refuse to spend stupid amounts of money on the same thing!

Talk to me!
