If you didn’t know, today was Kyle’s birthday! I get super excited about other people’s birthdays, like more than my own. So this is how the day went.
I baked (on Sunday) him some low-fat butterless breakfast rolls with jam and hung them on his gate (they have a gate to get into their yard/driveway).
K so again I am showcasing my blogger newbie-ness and I forgot to snap a photo. But he sent me this so I think he liked them…
They’re actually muffins, but when I call them muffins people assume they are Starbucks-super-sweet-and-fatty-esk. They taste more like a fresh dinner roll (with jam) to me.
Another thing I hung on their gate:
I painted a sign for him so when he drove down to the end of his driveway, he would see that 🙂
We both went to our respective work places. Yada yada yada (Seinfeld anyone?)…On to dinner time!
Kyle came over to my house after work for his home cooked meal. My nice parents went out to eat so we could have the house to ourselves. look dad *points to preceding sentence*, i said that without any sarcasm.
I had asked Kyle if he wanted anything in particular, but he opted for a surprise dinner. The one suggestion he made was Pizza Muffins, so I obliged.
Even though Kyle LOVVVES steak, I decided to go with a lighter meat because pizza muffins are heavy. So I made him his favorite chicken, my Balsamic Vinaigrette Chicken (skinless breast).
And because he is a big eater and I’m always scared that I won’t make enough food, I also made his favorite quinoa and some roasted carrots.
And because we clearly didn’t stuff our faces enough, pumpkin pie for dessert. I know this sounds weird but I asked Kyle what he would like for his birthday dessert, and that is what he chose. He LOVES pumpkin pie and I love baking anything he loves 🙂
We had some major crust issues goin’ on…Tastes great, looked like I used my feet.
Recipes to come later!
Can’t forget about presents! I love giving presents to people, and actually it is super hard for me to keep it a secret, especially from Kyle. Oh, and Annie (my sister) for Christmas- we actually invented “kids get to open 1 gift to/from each other on Christmas Eve” because of this problem I have. It usually goes something like this:
- Spends a long time figuring out what to get the person
- Buys gift early (early enough to avoid SNAFU’s but late enough that the person can return said gift)
- Immediately after #2, texts future gift receiver to let them know that I got them something and asks if they want to know
- Future gift receiver calls my bluff and says “Yes”
- Cringes and bites tongue to try to keep the gift a secret
- Painfully keeps the secret until gift-giving day
Here’s what he got from me
He hates bikes/cycling but this stuff was on clearance, so I just went with it.
I kid. He’s super into cycling.
Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE! I love you and hope you had a wonderful day!
Hope you all had an evening as fantastic as mine!
